Apple have opened a brand new headquarters known as Apple Park and while its beautiful it is causing some problems. Employees keep colliding into doors and windows of the glass spaceship style building. The employees are not authorized to place any warning signs on the glass to avoid injuries and accidents. Apple seems to willing know there is a problem and refusing to adjust or acknowledge the structure. They may not have an option however as investigations begin. As required by the state, there are workers compensation benefits available to those injured on the job. A Los Angeles workers compensation attorney can help guide injured workers through the process.
Apple went ahead with the building of this beautiful building despite warnings by a building inspector that they will not be able to tell where the doors end and the wall starts. This ignorance of the warnings led to three injuries that needed to be treated by emergency medical staff within the first month of the buildings use. This problem has apparently been ongoing since the 5 billion dollar building has been partially in operation for the past year. Apple negligently ignored building inspectors causing this ongoing problem for the aesthetic that the project would have. Now, they may be facing lawsuits and many workers compensation cases because of it.
In January, Apple’s vice president of real estate and development, Dan Whisenhunt, reportedly acknowledged the problem to the Rotary Club of Cupertino. He said: “We’ve had people bump into the glass. That’s a problem we are working on right now.” They have also started marking the doors with stickers like they do with glass doors in stores. Are stickers enough to prevent further accidents? Some employees do not think so. Although the signs may help slightly, the best option for Apple is to redesign aspects of the workplace.
