Finding a job is the vain of our existence. As children we see our parents go to and from work all the while complaining about being there yet they go back every time. Rarely do you hear about parents who loved their jobs or sang praises about their jobs. Finding a job you love and are happy with is real and it is out there. But more often than not before we find that dream job, we usually get stuck at some really crappy ones.

There are lots of things you don’t learn in high school or in college, one such issue is dealing with relationship and communication problems in the work place. These are what we consider social skills or “soft skills”. They are not nearly as valued as “hard skills” like engineering or coding. The difference between the two is that with soft skills is typically learning how to deal with different people and adjust to different human circumstances, which can lead to lots of ambiguity and grey areas. Hard skills are more about concrete ideas and concepts, rights and wrongs. So why is this important?

This is important because the work place is changing. With the emergence of technology, our work space has moved from the building we used to drive to and from to vibrating in our pockets due to emails, instant messaging, or calendar notifications. We are pressured more than ever to get things done faster because the world, in a sense, has gotten faster. But is this healthy? This where we want you to pause and reflect.
